Commons Library publishes “Black Friday promotions” paper

The House of Commons Library has published a research briefing on the promotion and regulation of financial products on Black Friday. A debate has been scheduled for 23 November and has been initiated by Stella Creasey, who has for years been concerned about high-cost credit companies.  She is pleased at the initiative to regulate BNPL, but concerned that Christmas is approaching and wants the Government to take action before regulatory changes come into force. Her particular immediate concern is that people are already being targeted for Black Friday offers, She is also concerned that the industry is taking advantage of the delay before regulation comes in, for example advertising BNPL on betting products.
