EU statement on EU-Japan Joint Financial Regulatory Forum

The European Commission has published a statement on the second meeting of the EU-Japan Joint Financial Regulatory Forum which took place on 20 November. Topics of discussion at the meeting included the impact of Covid-19 on the EU, Japanese and global financial systems, as well as financial regulatory and supervisory responses in their respective jurisdictions and at multilateral level. The Forum also discussed enhanced cooperation particularly in the areas of recovery and resolution and the insurance sector.

The Commission presented the digital finance package it adopted in September, in particular the legislative proposal relating to crypto-assets, whilst the Financial Services Agency of Japan presented its new policy initiatives to enhance Japan’s functions as a global financial centre.

The next Forum meeting will take place in Brussels in 2021.
