FCA to help travel insurance customers with pre-existing medical conditions

The FCA has launched a consultation on a new ‘signposting’ rule, aimed at helping customers with pre-existing medical conditions (PEMC) purchase travel insurance.

The rule would specify circumstances in which firms should provide customers with PEMC with details of a directory of travel insurance firms that are capable of covering them. The FCA is thereby aiming to  help customers navigate the market and find firms offering travel insurance products that will provide coverage for their PEMC.

The FCA is also consulting on guidance to clarify travel insurance firms’ obligations to customers with PEMC, and will be working on additional supporting remedies.

The consultation will run until 15 September 2019.
