UK government launch Green Finance Strategy

HM Treasury and BEIS have launched a Green Finance Strategy to meet the government’s target of reducing emissions to net zero by 2050, to boost sustainable investment, and to help make the UK  a ‘green investment’ hub.

Measures include expectations for publicly listed companies and large asset owners to, by 2022, be disclosing how climate change risk impacts their activities. The government will then review  how firms are meeting these expectations, and will explore whether mandatory disclosures are required to achieve them.

The government has also co-funded a new Green Finance Institute, which will develop links between the public and private sectors to support the growth in opportunities in this sector.
