Treasury Committee announces inquiry into decarbonisation of the UK Economy and Green Finance

The Treasury Committee has announced an inquiry that will look at the respective roles of HMT, regulators and financial service firms in supporting the government’s climate change commitment.

The terms of reference for the inquiry include:

• the economic opportunity that decarbonisation presents for the UK, and the potential of the green finance sector;
• HMT’s strategy in facilitating clean growth and its response to the CCC’s net-zero recommendations;
• the role that financial services firms are currently playing in financing the transition; and
• the ‘green’ financial product landscape and their associated regulatory environment.

Submissions to the enquiry should be made by 26 July 2019.
