Mansion House 2018: Speech by the Chancellor of the Exchequer

HM Treasury has published a speech by Philip Hammond, Chancellor of the Exchequer, which was delivered at the annual Mansion House dinner.

In his speech, Mr Hammond focused on Brexit and financial services. He said that the UK needs to ensure that it remains a world leader in innovation, and extend London’s position as the world’s number one international financial services centre post-Brexit. This can be done by building on three core strengths:

  • Industry, regulators, and government must work together to build the most innovative, pro-growth environment in the financial services world;
  • the UK must build its resilience; and
  • the UK must commit to being the most open market in the world.
