The Consumer Protection Partnership Update Report for 2017

The Department for Business, Energy & Industrial Strategy has published a report by the Consumer Protection Partnership (CPP), identifying and prioritising areas where there is greatest harm caused to consumers and setting out the actions taken by the members of the CPP.

In 2016 the CPP identified scam calls, digital and online markets, secondary ticketing, and consumer redress in the electronics sector as main areas of concern.

Going forward, the following three areas have been identified as priorities for 2017:

  • Telecommunications – mobile phone repairs and redress;
  • Complex Prices – reference pricing; and
  • Financial Products and Services – poverty premium.

The CPP will consider how it can best tackle the priorities set out above and take collective action to protect consumers.The 2018 Report will highlight progress in tackling these issues alongside any new areas of concern which emerge over the next year.
