Commission consults on post-trade services and the CMU

In 2001, the European Commission identified certain barriers relating to post-trade services, and although major changes have taken place in the capital markets such as  EMIR, CSDR and SFTR), no review had been undertaken.

The Commission has now published a consultation paper on post-trade services in the CMU in order to understand stakeholders’ views on the:

  • current state of the post-trade markets;
  • main trends and challenges faced by post-trade services providers and their users;
  • existence and scale of remaining or new barriers, the risks associated with such barriers and the best ways to address them.

The Commission is focusing on how technological changes impact on the markets, but seeks views on all trends that drive the evolution of post-trade markets.  It is also keen to understand the main trends shaping post-trade services internationally. Responses to the consultation paper are due by 15 November 2017, the feedback on which will contribute towards the Commission’s communication on post-trade in late 2017.
