Brexit Committee calls for Parliamentary vote on Brexit deal

The first report of the committee on exiting the EU calls for the Government to publish its Brexit plan by mid-February, and says that plan should set out the Government’s position on membership of the single market and should commit that Parliament will be able to vote on the final Treaty. Among the priorities the Committee identifies are:

  • that the Government should strive to avoid a return to tariffs and other regulatory and bureaucratic impediments to trade;
  • that the Government should seek to ensure continued access to EU markets in financial services for UK providers by whatever means, and to work to ensure there is minimal disruption to financial services;
  • that mutually beneficial cooperation on defence, foreign policy, security, financial crime and the fight against terrorism remain; and
  • taking into consideration the position of the devolved Governments.
